June 16 brought another strong day of group stage action at the 2026 World Cup. France and Argentina both impressed with convincing victories, while Norway and Austria secured important three points.

France 3-1 Senegal — Group I, East Rutherford

France kicked off their campaign in style at MetLife Stadium. Kylian Mbappé scored a brace and provided leadership as Les Bleus defeated Senegal 3-1. Senegal showed fight but France's quality and attacking depth proved decisive in Group I.

Norway 4-1 Iraq — Group I, Foxborough

Erling Haaland was in fine form as Norway routed Iraq 4-1. The Vikings displayed clinical finishing and strong counter-attacks, moving to the top of Group I after the first round of fixtures.

Argentina 3-0 Algeria — Group J, Kansas City

The defending champions Argentina were ruthless against Algeria. With Messi pulling the strings, Julián Álvarez and teammates converted chances efficiently for a 3-0 win. Argentina look sharp and in control of Group J.

Austria 3-1 Jordan — Group J, Santa Clara

Austria claimed a solid 3-1 victory over Jordan on the West Coast. Despite a spirited response from Jordan after the break, Austria held firm to collect three valuable points.

The group stage intensifies with more fixtures scheduled for June 17.
